Tiree Tiree Tiree! What a beautiful place! I love it all year round bad weather
or glorious sunshine.You can’t help but be inspired by the place, though I do sometimes have to stop myself staring out of the window when I have pieces to finish! It’s also incredibly hard to just go for a walk on a beach without stopping and picking shells to copy or pebbles for my collection.
Tiree is a long thin island about 10 miles long and 5 miles wide (1 mile at its narrowest point) and is the outermost of the Inner Hebrides. Its coastline is mostly pure white empty beaches and the sea is so clear and sparkly it surprises me every time. Tiree is renowned for its sunshine and has the record number of sunshine hours in Britain and one of the best things is that its nearly midge free!!
On Tiree you can feel that human life hasn’t quite taken over yet – seals, otters, dolphins, porpoises, hares, corncrakes, oyster catchers, basking sharks (saw 11 from my sunroom window) amongst others are all very common and you almost get the feeling that they have more right to being here than we do! Tiree is very flat with only a couple of hills which is great for the lazy cyclist but is also very breezy or maybe I should say windy at times!
If you like the outdoors, surfing, relaxing and the most gorgeous scenery you’ll like Tiree!
