I first came to Tiree on Holiday with my family in May 2002, and in 2003 I
returned with my partner Will for a long holiday and never left! The year after
we married at Baugh Church with champagne on Balinoe Beach and are now really
settled on the island – in fact I can’t imagine living anywhere
else summer or winter!
Since living on the Tiree I have done and do a variety of jobs including a
Fire-Fighter with Strathclyde Fire and Rescue, the Home Help Organiser, Class
room support, Bar staff and Waitress work, teaching Drama HNC, but best of all
setting up Chocolates and
Charms with the lovely Jo and my own little company Rebecca
Wright Jewellery Design.
I am originally from Halifax in Yorkshire and although I have always had a love
for jewellery and being creative with my hands my degree is in Theatre!
After finishing my degree I worked for Antic Mind Theatre Company in Sowerby
Bridge and had a great time but wanted to be creative in another way. Having enjoyed playing
round with beads all my life I decided to take some training in the jewellery
field. Amongst other places I learnt my core Fused Glass and Fine Silver work
at the Mid Cornwall School of Jewellery with the fab Lisa Cain, bought my own
kiln and started experimenting.
Making jewellery to me is playing, I love to open my kiln and see what’s
worked and how things have turned out, I love creating new pieces and seeing
people wearing things I made when I first started that are still wearing well!
I actually can’t believe how lucky I am to live on such a beautiful island
and really enjoy my work.
